OVERVIEW
Monarch Racing is proud to present this impeccably bred filly, by Champion Stallion Capitalist. This filly was secured from Australia’s best of the best sales, Easter Inglis. She is a combination of power and athleticism, we expect her to run at 2yo and train on to be better at 3yo and beyond. Capitalist is the current leading sire for winners amongst all Stallions in Australia and has finished in the top 10 standings for Sires the last 3 seasons. Her mother Sienna lady (IRE) was an exceptional winner over the mile in Ireland and is a three quarter sister to 1 million Euro earner SHAKESPEAREAN making this filly a close relation to Champion Sprinter in Hong Kong CALIFORNIA SPANGLE. To be trained by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott at Randwick, she is BOBS & Inglis race series nominated. This filly presents a fantastic opportunity to join us in ownership as a high quality 2yo filly and valuable broodmare prospect.
SIRE: CAPITALIST
One of the best sons of the Champion Sire Written Tycoon, Capitalist hit the ground running, proving himself the leading two-year-old of his year with dominant victories in the Listed Breeders Plate, the Wyong Magic Millions and the Gold Coast Magic Millions. A little lame after a Gr.2 Todman Stakes second, Capitalist quickly bounced back with his Gr.1 Golden Slipper Stakes victory, overcoming trouble in running to prove too strong for Yankee Rose and Flying Artie who would both go on to frank that form. Racing only twice at three with a lucrative stud career beckoning, Capitalist did not relish the soft conditions when fourth in the Gr.3 San Domenico Stakes, trying hard when third in the Gr.2 Roman Consul Stakes at his finale. Always popular at his Newgate Farm base, Capitalist has proven to be a reliably classy stallion with an excellent 69% winners-to-runners strike rate. Boasting progeny earnings in excess of $74.2 million, Capitalist has been well represented by 30 stakes winners including the Gr.1 sprinters Captivant and Reserve Bank – and this year’s stakes horses Alpha Sofie, Asva, Hedged, King Of Roseau and Rich On Bubbles. Another 30 of Capitalist’s sons and daughters are stakes placed whilst a further 121 are metropolitan winners – meaning that over 40% of his winners are at least city class!
DAM: SIENNA LADY
An imported mare who won over a mile in Ireland, Sienna Lady is a daughter of the Gr.1 French Derby/Gr.1 French 2000 Guineas hero Lope de Vega who is doing such a great job as a broodmare sire with 26 stakes winners. Purchased as a broodmare prospect for $240,000, Sienna Lady produced this filly as her second foal; her first being the yet to race two-year-old Sienna Of Brighton (by Palace Pier). She foaled a So You Think colt last spring and was served by Alabama Express.
SECOND DAM: PAIMPOLAISE
This placed daughter of the multiple Gr.1 winning miler Priolo has done a good job at stud with her five winners including the dual Group winner Shakespearean – winner of five of his 15 starts. She is also grandam of the outstanding Hong Kong based galloper California Spangle, winner of 13 of 34 starts including Gr.1 contests in Hong Kong and Dubai.
THIRD DAM: BASILEA
By the Gr.1 Prix Ganay winner Frere Basile, the unraced Basilea did a fine job at stud with her seven winners including the Gr.3 mare Pont-Aven (dam of the stakes winners Sainte Martin, Josr Algarhoud and Cap Coz) and the Listed winner Albacora (dam of Listed winner Hammiya) and she is ancestress of several other stakes winners… Indian Days, Biniou, Reply, Traou Mad, Manuela de Vega, Hero Look, Isabel de Urbina, She Do, Shaqira and Alflaila. Basilea’s dual stakes winning dam Gay Apparel produced three stakes winners and her dam Brief Attire four. This is a prolific black-type family, one which has been represented by stakes winners in England, Hong Kong, Dubai, France, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Canada, Japan, America and South Africa.
PEDIGREE ANALYSIS
Carrying crosses of the influential stallions Kenmare and Mr Prospector, this filly also boasts several strains of Northern Dancer whose dam Natalma and grandam Almahmoud are proven high class line-breeding forces… and they appear here via strains of Danehill, Machiavellian and Halo. Several other great mares are duplicated in the background of this pedigree – namely Schiaparelli (ancestress of Capitalist’s great grandsire Last Tycoon and of Djakao whose son Frere Basile is Sienna Lady’s second dam sire), Helene de Troie (via Buckpasser and Ardan), Lavendula (My Babu, Turn-To and Irish River) and Mumtaz Begum (Royal Charger, Nasrullah and Kalamoun). As well as Queen Mary (To Market and Riverman), Black Ray (Mill Reef and Blushing Groom) and Cherokee Rose II (whose descendants Fusaichi Pegasus – dam sire of Capitalist – and Storm Cat – great grandsire of Lope de Vega – have combined in 80 stakes winners including eight Gr.1 horses).
